Valkyrie

This movie which was based on a true story about the last known assassination attempts on Hitler. It has enough suspense to keep me awake and it was suppose to be a thriller. There was this group of people who were anti-Hitler, both militarists and politicians.

Apparently, they can just gather at some house and then talk about their plans openly, probably because technology is just isn't there at that time. TC was Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a loyal soldier to Germany but not AH. He was seriously injured in Tunisia but returned to Berlin, left eye gone, some fingers gone, right hand below the elbow gone. They wanted to recruit him, though initially TC rejected as he seems this assassination was more of a political move.

Anyway, he convinced them of this plan, Operation Valkyrie, which was to activate the reserve army and making them believe SS was doing a coup and arrests SS people. But of course, there were some challenges.

To get hitler to sign the re-written Valkyrie, which TC somehow successfully did it. The re-written one includes the capturing of leaders of SS.

To get close enough to Hitler to kill him. But then the trick to using these explosives was for most common sense reason, at that time, AQ probably not the in thing, so the ground rule was do not be anywhere near the explosives when it goes off.

To activate Valkyrie, needs Fromm approval, who heads the reserve army. Problem was though he knows of such anti activities going out there, he was still neutral.

Then what went wrong. Previous attempts failed because Himmler wasn't there, the head of SS. But it did came to the "now or never" and "whatever cost" moment, TC went to the wolf's lair to meet Hitler and the rest of the kk.

The meeting was supposed to be held in an enclosed room but was later held in a room
with opened windows. This will reduce the power of the explosives. And TC last min decide to use just only one briefcase of explosive. Though he managed to put the briefcase as close to AD, but as he leaves the room to take a "important" call, the bag was moved to the other end of the table, even so somehow AD didn't die, as he gave orders to capture TC and his people, also talk over the radio to people of Germany.

Though the order to activate the reserve army was given late due to no confirmation that AD was dead. The indecisive General Olbricht did eventually activate the reserve and captured Fromm. But all these are shortlived as the major of the reserve troops got a call from AD to capture TC and his guys.

Eventually they got executed. 7/10
