Saturday Dinner@Swiss Culture

The Kuishin Bo Jap buffet starts at 5:30 pm. Slightly before that, the queue is already forming. The rest of the restaurants along the 3rd floor are empty.

We were the first at Swiss Culture. First time here.

I think the fondue is quite a favourite here but we didn't get that. The cheese fondue is about $40, while the dessert chocolate fondue is about $15. Anyway, a quick browse, decided on the "Must Try !!!" golden wings, zurich-style chicken, swiss pork sausage ...

The golden wings was good !!! 5 full wings, crispy and some kind of "instant noodle" taste like powder was on the wings itself !!!

The zurich-style chicken was so called award winning. The chicken was average but it was the gravy sauce !!! Just the right thickness and savoury but yet not overwhelming. The pork sausage is huge, skin abit crispy and a soft meaty centre but abit salty. The mains came with rosti and salads. The rosti is fried into a round prata shape but was quite "Terry Fox". Not sure why they fried till like that.

The swiss latte looked suspiciously like a cappuccino except it has no chocolate powder on the foam but it looked really nice. Taste wise, average.

A good meal and service was quite good. Definitely can come back :)

Balls of Fury

If you have watched Dodgeball, the ben stiller type of loser turn winner movie which tries hard to make you laugh throughout the movie. And it usually succeed with slapticks, crap but funny dialogues, comical actions and unexpected moments of twists.

Balls of fury is of a lower grade of the above main elements. About a young talented american ping pong player, Randy, whose failure at the 88 Olympics which send his life into dismay.

Many many years later, he became fat probably being in a "Fast Food" nation. Performing his incredible ping pong skills in some low-down restaurant cum bar filled with Alzheimer filled patrons.

Then the crap starts ...

Some FBI guy approached him and wanted him to help him capture Feng, some underworld baddie who was crazy about ping pong and usually holds ping pong tournament with expert opponents which he invited.

He accepted and being a slapstick movie, why he accepted was of no importance.

Being washed-up, he need to brush up abit. Then entered the most funny character of the movie, Master Wong, the blind ping pong guru in Chinatown.

Yes, blind. Crap movie, remember ? Blind how to teach ? Can ... his niece, Maggie Q as Maggie. She is just there to kick butt, play some real good ping pong and to be in love with Randy.

After some training, Randy must beat "The dragon" so as to allow Feng to select him for the tournament. No reward for guessing how the dragon looks like, the more you think it would be, the least it would be.

Then came the tournament ... which was held in a secret place where Feng lived.

Like the part about the "sex slaves", whom were courtesan that are experts in erotic art. Yes, we are not watching "Lust, Caution" ... So it just have to be an unexpected moment of twist.

It ended with Randy finishing off Feng and with a "must have" happy ending. Overall, a very entertaining movie with its laughs here and there. 7/10

Friday Dinner@Al Jilani

Not the first time we being there. It has been a very popular spot because of the good location and is opened for 24 hours. A typical indian food stall but with an extensive menu. The nasi goreng, mee/mee hoon/maggie goreng, mutarbuk and roti john are quite good, especially the nasi goreng and mee hoon goreng. Good stuff !!

This is their kopichino which is basically some kind of latte. The concoction is nice !!

The nasi goreng eaten with their belachan is really good. But the belachan is really hot, tiny portion is advised if you can't take fiery hot. The mee hoon goreng mutton is just good. A bit spicy and the mee hoon fried till just right, not too soft. The mutton adds the meaty bite into it.

Wednesday Lunch@Serangnoon Gardens FC

Missed the char kway tiao and couldn't find the roti john stall though the FC was quite small. Maybe missing the char kway tiao was our luck, some guy was in front of the queue but seemingly already waited since he got his "PSLE" and his other friends already done with their lunch. He was quite frustrated.

There is a stall called something something "高级油条", probably for the people who staying in the private prop around that area :)

The signage on this Bak Chor Mee stall is grabbing my attention. And with the accolades paste all over the stall, looks like a must try.

At $4 a bowl, it is not cheap but the ingredients are aplenty and generous. You get your fishballs, fishcakes, pig liver, mushrooms, bak chor and of course the noodles.It was good. Something better than the average one you get in a kopitiam or FC.

I think I know this stall before from some TV show. A stall selling bakery type roti in a FC and good business it is having. People come and go off with loads of roti. At $0.60 to $0.80 a piece, you have raisin, butter, cheese, gor cham bak, donuts, ham & cheese, heh bi hiam, etc..

Lastly, must mention a non-mention. Some something something "Express" stall selling western food. Its chocolate delight cake at $2.80/piece is not worth trying. Basically is sponge cake with a thin layer of choco fudge on top and a thin layer of "don't know" what in the middle.

Movie started with Rose Mcgowan of Charmed as Cherry doing a sexual Go-Go dance. Then the story moved to main plot, showing army vechicles moving into an army base. They are doing some bio-weapon experimental but it went all wrong and people are infected there. But the soldiers got some kind of temporary antidote, some gas which they must inhale all the time to prevent the infection from starting.

They become zombie but not the kind of normal zombies.

You get all kind of infection and the skin just go haywired. Bubbles all over the face, cyst-filled, swollen and it is contagious.

So you get a town full of zombies. So who are the good guys ?

Became the one-legged power weapon wielding zombie killer. She lost one leg after 2 zombies simply tore it off her. Yes, Tore !!!

El Wray
It was Robert Rodriguez. Seems like some of kind of mercenary to me or ex-cop or whatever ... Haiya ... Not important. So called leader of the good guys who packs a sniper shot.

Dr William and Dr Dakota
Husband and Wife. But wife was having a lesbian relationship and have planned to get rid of the hubby. Not much of a chance though with very zombied problems coming along. William got bitten in the end and became one of them.

Some restaurant guy who is obsessed with coming up with the world's best BBQ sauce.

Abby
Naveen Andrews from LOST. He was some bio scientist who helped the good guys in the end. Well before his head got splatted off. It was a damn mess boi !

Rapist
I don't think he got a name. But it was Quentin Tarantino so it is a must mention. One of the soldier and since he was named rapist, of course he must raped somebody. He tried to do it on Cherry and Dakota but failed. He was damn pissed and forgot the inhale the gas. There onwards, he just mutate into some disgusted zombie creature. Yucks !!! Since he is a rapist and the infection infects every part of the body, his cock got gooy, slimy and droopy, even that he still wants to bang Cherry, failed anyway.

Team of Sheriffs
Every town needs some enforcer so they just fitted into the movie.

One funny thing was Bruce Willis actually acted and he was the Lt Col of the soldiers. Anyway, it was a damn good hell of a 100 mins of pure gore entertainment ! Funny as well ! 8/10

WTF is a schwarzwalderkirschtorte ?

It is a valid word. German to be exact. This was what my friend ordered.

Not anywhere near to knowing how the German language is structured but it definitely will challenge your mouth and tongue.

Torte means cake so schwarzwalderkirschtorte is actually Black Forest Cherry Cake.

Other items have a more fathomable description. Not sure why this has to be in its true german wordings.

Friday Dinner@Brotzeit Vivo

Wide selection of beer. Sea View. Breeze is optional though. And because of the alfresco settings of this restaurant, most of the seats offers you a lighted view of Sentosa. The service was quite enthusiastic but most important the food was quite good.

The view just before night falls ...

German food is famous for its sausages, knuckles, sauerkraut, etc. The "looked like" manager guy got us on our way by introducing a few popular beers. In the end, we got the Weissbier which was wheat beer. It was smooth.

Here comes the main cast. Garden Salad, Sausage Platter and Pork Knuckles ...

The platter consists of sausages like spicy chicken, lamb, chicken/pork cheese cracker, weisswurst, garlic ones. Definitely a must order for more than 2 pax. I like most of them other than the big fat greyish one which is less firm inside and it has a unique taste which I don't really like.

The pork knuckles is very good as well. Very cripsy on the outside and the meat inside is quite tender. Just like really good "Sio Bak" with little fat meat in it. The sauerkraut and potato salad that comes with the 2 main dishes compliments the meaty dishes.

Goes well with the beer too !

Desserts had been a must in most meals so far, this one is not giving the slip as well. Though the dessert menu doesn't look impressive. Anyway, the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream surprises. The strudel is not those normal pastries type like reinaldo. More of cake like texture and it is warm. Soft and with loads of apple in it. With the ice cream in every bite, the warm and cold combination makes it nice !


All come to about $120 for 3 persons after the HSBC 15% discount. Not cheap but it was a good meal. Worth returning :)

Mediacorp's attempt to revive the previous popular StarSearch may have hit a hitch. Read in today's 联合早报's entertainment's front page. All the wierd actions by 评审万梓良 was reported in it.

This 才华横溢出新秀 was revamped and its format now based on the popular weekly elimination method. The so called stringently selected participants from TW, CN, MSIA and SG have their own Mediacorp artiste's as mentor.

I did not really follow the starsearch but when i do watched some parts, the only funny thing i notice was the comments 万梓良 gave was simply 'Wu Kong Kana Bo Kong. Buey Hiao Mai Kong". 万梓良, never give me the impression that speaking fluently and eloquently in Mandarin was his forte but still ... to TCSS ... is abit unfathomable worr

But now with the report out, looks like there are more than meets the eye. The part about he went to backstage and talked to 郭亮 and 权仪风 but simply 出言不逊. Asking them since they known each other for so long, they must be having an affair ....

权仪风 known for her hot words in the media in the past, was definitely 不爽. I meant, it was definitely not nice comments and she is a married woman somemore. She had no choice but to 顾全大局 first, but then how long can she 忍忍忍. We have to see !

There was another point saying during the "Live' broadcast of one episode, Mr Can'tTalk&Senile took out his "quite big' camera and started playing with it in his seat.

I meant, he might have won a 金马奖 but that was almost 20 yrs ago leh. Was reported that he quoted this outloud at the backstage during the live show as he expected someone to lead him to another area at the backstage.

Think Mediacorp must seriously consider who they bring in as a 评审 next time. Maybe 粱朝伟won't be interested or even free but there are still a handful of artiste out there who can be a 评审 what. With the right money and persuasion, might not be a problem at all.

Booooo Hooooo :( Really was spending unneccesary $$$. My front bumper went against the parallel parking lot curb, somehow I did not realize it till it keep going against the curb till the bumper came lose and hanging off the front grille.

Only realize when I tried to reverse to get more space to move out. But while reversing, there was a loud and dragging noise. My friend went down to see .....

Sian .... The bumper already came off. But then some fortunate amid the misfortunate, I was able to push back the bumper. And it looked quite intact, so at least came drive it home.

Not sure what struck me, parked at that area almost at least once or twice a week.

Hai ...

This morning, went to Nissan at Ubi to get bumper re-fixed. $85.60 was the bill :(

It is just simply jinxed. The Chelsea curse was broken last season. The Arsenal was almost that close to been dissolved. But it is just not to be ...

Friday Dinner@Kuishin Bo

They called themselves Authentic Japanese Buffet. At $39.80 ++ during Fri, Sat, Sun and PB, it is definitely not cheap. But what do you get to eat ?

About 4 types of different sashimi
Prawns, Scallops
Huge crab legs which is the main attraction
Sushis
A few hot dishes
Paper Steamboat
Teppanyaki - Beef, Squids, Salmon, Fish fillet, Chicken
Deep Fried items like chicken, prawns, crabs, etc
Ginseng Scallop Porridge
Freeflow Drinks like softdrinks and a great selection of Lipton Tea
And quite a spread at the dessert sections as well

These are raw like sashimi. Fresh and juicy. Eat till overdose.

Not a fan of Jap paper steamboat but want to give it a try. And confirm, because it is of miso soup based which is not really my liking.

The desserts are good. Cheese cakes, tarts, konnyaku, japanese "mi jiang kueh", dark chocolates, banana eclairs, chocolate ice cream, puff, custard roll, etc.

Thursday Dinner@Brewerkz

Brewekz has been a hotspot for drinks and food after work. It is still hot and always packed. With a decent selection of American-styled food items where the prices are above average and a huge selection of self-brewed beers, it draws a very decent crowd, especially on weekends.

A Combo of chicken leg and quarter rack of ribs. Drenched with its special BBQ sauce with a tiny tint of spicy. The coleslaw is not the norm ones. The herb spiced fries is abit disppointed, not as savoury as I would have expected.

Oreo Cheesecake in Ice Cream form. What is there to say ? Yummy !

They called it "Black Bottom Pie". Actually is frozen chocolate ice cream. Meaning it is a mud pie. But it was really huge. "Black Bottom Mount Kinabalu" would be a better name.

Ergonomic ?

I got my first ergonomic pillow just now. Has been unsure of its benefits and may not be able to get used to it, therefore did not really go and get one. Anyway, finally decided to get one as it may get my stiff neck I got every morning.


The pillow is contoured with one side lower, the centre is concave, the other side higher. It was selling at $39 in IKEA. There is another one at $9.90 but just simple CMI. *Cannot make it*

Tuesday Dinner@Fish & Co

The chowder was average. Comes in a small cup but the ingredients are aplenty though the clams smells. Not thick enough to my liking though.

The mussels was good. Or maybe the sauce is good. Very savoury, goes well with the mussels or the bread that was provided.


Anticipating the main course recommendations ......

So that was swordfish collar !!! Always saw people order whenever I eat at fish & co. Big chunks of crispy looking fried items on their usual steel plates but big ones. Finally had a chance to taste it.

But a nice start to the dinner became ...

An ordeal.

It is the collar so there are some parts which have the jelly or googy thingie

Hazards in China

Was on my way back from lunch. News on YES 933. There is a worker in China who was hospitalize, he 吐血 after drinking some mineral water. He was lucky that he came in quick if not confirm 死翘翘. The family members trying to prove to the doctors, let a live chicken drink the water. Well, 事实胜于雄辩, the chicken 当场丧命 !!!

In recent months, news of fake foods and other items in China is getting its headlines attention. From milk powder, distilled/mineral water, fake buns, and more which I could not remember. The recent one will be the recall of millions of Mattel toys produced in China. In which all of them contained a high amount of lead content, which can lead to inhibition of growth in kids.

Saw a news clip on TV showing some China spokesman "trying" to 大事化小 小事化无. His unapologetic tone and speech did not impress any all. In addition, attempting to site this as a small % of problematic incidents as inevitable.

天理不容 !!!

It is inevitable that some small companies tries to bend rules and controls to maximize profits that leads to using of illegal materials in producing items. But it is not inevitable that such incidents happened !!!

There was another clip on TV. Interviewing some Cina in China after the mattel incident in which a woman confidently said she still thinks it is safe and more important she believes her kids is old enough not to put the toys in their mouths. *Faint*

How about the media guy who fake the fake buns news ? But now who knows which is fake ? The news or the buns ?

It is almost impossible to re-establish a fallen brand. People are still believing that goods made in Japan are still of a superior quality, to an extent it has become a psychological confidence.

People still wear Nike even it is made in China, Vietnam and SA countries nowadays. The brand has surpassed most other factors.

So if the "Made in China" brands is tarnished real bad ....

Tuesday Lunch@Courts Tampines

Seems a belated entry. But anyway, not about the food. Wanted to check out if Courts have any relazing chair/couch/sofa or whatever. Had been slouching too much in bed to watch tv and the neck part was not getting comfy.

This L-shaped sofa at $1,849 looked ex, considering it was courts premium selection. More important, IT IS NOT JUST A SOFA !!!!

IT IS A DAMN L-SHAPED DESKTOP WITH LEATHER SEATS !!!

A Saturday that I wasn't out, at least till now. Woke up around 9, could not sleep anymore. Washed up, dily daly, watched a movie called 单身部落. Then I went out for dim sim with my parents and brother.

Actually, I could not find any use for the $40 capitaland vouchers that I redeem using my starhub points so might as well "eat it off". We were early at Crystal Jade at Tampines Mall. Crystal Jade served some quite good dim sum.

As it gets around 11+, more and more people trickled in. It was like 99.9999999999% full house.

Our orders came quite promptly. 虾饺 烧卖 叉烧包 叉烧酥 奶皇包 腐皮卷 酥炸芋角 萝卜糕 马蹄糕 糯米鸡 猪肝肉丸粥 鸡鸭粥 *They have a nicer name for this

It was good stuff !

After the full brunch, went to NTUC to get Ben & Jerry !!! 2 for $18,75 !!! Offer but still expensive. Seems like I am addicted to Ben & Jerry or Haagen Daaz in recent months. Though I do have it outside if I am near their outlets but usually never buy the tubs version and enjoy it at home :)

Got home. Finished off 单身部落. Some B-grade HK movie about the love life of 3 girls.

Then ...

I took a power nap. Think from 3 to 6 pm. Shoik ! Somehow slightly more lack of sleep this week.

Plantronics 665 !!!

Finally got my bluetooth headset ! At the comex that is, didn't expect that there is such a good deal.

Walked past the Ban Leong Plantronics booth, browsing the brochure and most model are quite big and got a clip for you to hover around the ear.
But of course, if the headset fits properly in your ear then probably you do not need the clip.

I tried to buy the 645e model off ebay but could not find the right seller. Either prices varies or the shipping is quite high, though it is still cheaper to buy here with the normal retail price. Anyway, I bought the 665 model. It was $269 in the brochure but the guy casually say that if I pay by OCBC cc, it will be $169 !!!

Sure or not !??!?!?! So Good ?!?!?!?

After more confirmation, seems like it was just that simple and straightforward. I checked out other booths for other brands and offers but still decided to come back to bought the 665.

Actually, an average bluetooth headset cost around $50 to $100, brands like iTech, nokia, SE, jabra, plantronics as well.

Higher ends one are from $100 to $200. Plantronics higher ends model are slight more expensive, above $200.


My friend was using the 645e model which he bought off ebay and so far so good. That was one reason why I got the 665 as well. It comes with :

3 sizes ear gel tips
Usb charger
AC power charger
Handy car charger
A charging holder which acts as clip
Comes with 2 yr warranty !


There is also a slim clip for you to hook over your ear if the headset doesn't fit well.

Mine fits well with the biggest ear gel tip.

So far ....

Connection is easy and swift.
Sound is loud and clear.
Connection stable throughout the duration of use.

No complaints so far :)

话说回来, 工作都不忙, quite "做没" 的 actually. 也不知道为何想 take 个 long break.

Starhub Cable - BPL 07/08

The almost 100% increase in price for the sport group subscription was a unwelcome move by starhub after it splashed $200+ millions to get the exclusive rights for BPL games. But more important is, it no more is collaborating with ESPN SS to make programmes for the BPL games.

Before the seasons starts, starhub annouced that it is partnering some hk company to produce shows for BPL games. And newspaper reported this so called company is practically unknown in hk. A logical explanation will be they come cheap.

Seasons started ...

It was bad. Still bad as I blog ....

1) The sound from the studio set is bad. Felt hollow
2) The physical set looked dull, cheap and uninteresting
3) Maybe because of the above 2 factors, it also made morrision and his 2 guests sound bad
4) Players name misspelt when info splashed across the screen
5) Formation wrong. Man City first game
6) Marquee scrolling across inconsistent and incorrect info
7) No programme to review saturday's game on sunday. Previously, Jaime Yeo does it on SS on sundays.

01 Sep 07. ST programme listing showed ch 21 will show Fulham v Spurs. But starhub website and starhub digital TV listing showed ch 21 will show Reading v West Ham.

While I am watching Liverpool v Derby outside, into the first 15 mins.

It says Fulham 0 Spurs 0 .... And "Live" on Super Sports Plus, Ch 21

"Wtf ! So it is really showing live ...."

Sian ... should have watched at home. Anyway, decided to make my way home. Reached home at 11 pm, still can catched second half BUT KNN NBCB WTF, Ch 21 showing Reading v West Ham !!!

CRAP !!! F**KING MARQUEE !!! ANYWAY SPURS ALREADY 1-0 up in the 11th min !!!!

In such a monopoly situation .... Sigh is the only way out :(

Ratatouille

Bourne Ultimatum was rated 5 stars by ST Life, so was Ratatouille !!! An animation about food. Rats stealing food, eating garbage, a rat who can cooked, a mean food critic and a book "Anyone can cook".

Gusteau, who died, was the author of the book 'Anyone can cook' saw his restaurant dropped its rating from 5 stars to 4 stars after a bad rating by the mean critic, Ego and to 3 stars after his death.

Chef Skinner took over but could not restored the previous glory and instead introduced a series of frozen food products. Then linguini came to work as a garbage boy and unknowingly was Gusteau's son.

Remy was the talented rat who had the special gift of smelling and cooking good food. One day, it accidentally helped Linguini cooked up a pot of wonderful soup and received rave reviews from customers and a critic.

Remy wanted to be a good cook. So he risked being discovered by the humans and continued to work in Gusteau restaurant as Linguini asked remy to help him to cook. As linguini became popular, customers were asking more than soups, so remy and him worked out a way for them to cook in the kitchen without the rest noticing that a rat was helping him.

Ego knowing the restaurant is getting its recent attention returned to request for linguini to serves him his best. In between, linguini and remy had some arguements but remy still returned in the end to help linguini out.

But linguini told the crew the truth, showing remy to them. The crew left. So remy has to get help ..... from the whole rat clan !!! Remy cooked up the ratatouille dish and served Ego. It strucked Ego with awe with his first bite and flashed him to memories of his childhood.

So he gave his best review ever to the restaurant. But sadly, rats being discovered by the health inspector, it has to close down. In the end, a new restaurant opened where linguini and remy continued their cooking of good food.

Iit was entertaining and light-hearted. 8/10
