十月围城

This movie comprises a star-studded cast and huge budget mostly spend on building the 1906 HK central district replica. The cast 粱家辉, 甄子丹, 谢霆锋, 黎明, 李宇春, 范冰冰, 曾志伟, 任达华, 胡军, 王学圻, 王柏杰, 张学友 and 李嘉欣. Though 李嘉欣 appeared like for 3 seconds, she was supposed to be the one whom 黎明 as 刘郁白 loved but too bad, it was his dad's wife. Since that unfortunate incident, 刘郁白 led his life as a beggar. 张学友 as a lecturer, the 2nd least screen time, the one who started the movie, was assasinated while he walked down the stairs with his students.

Plot wise was based on historical records where the mission was to protect Mr Sun long enough so that he can meet the different FQFM leaders from other states/provinces. So once 梁家辉 as 革命党's 陈少白 know Mr Sun is arriving at HK, he started to gather $ and people for this mission. But the Qing imperial also wants to take this chance to eliminate Mr Sun, send his best candidate 胡军 as 刺客阎孝国. The first hour of the movie was mainly talking and building up the mood for the FQFM's holistic objective. In addition, halfway 陈少白 was captured by 阎孝国 after his men killed all the 戏班's people. They were led by 任达华 as 方天, whom was previous soldiers. The most qualified candidates were wiped out.

With 陈少白 temporary out, his best friend 王学圻 as 商人李玉堂 unwillingly took over. But as his newspaper office got shutdown by the local police, led by 曾志伟 as 探长史密夫, he became more involved and even more determined to protect Mr Sun. As he gathered people for this sucidie mission, he felt very conscience-ridden, like held in between the bigger picture and sacrificing people. As they get ready for D-day, 陈少白 managed to escape and return to 李玉堂. He mention to him so as to increase the success of the mission, they will need a substitute for Mr Sun. But as they draw lots, to boost the entertainment of the movie, the one who drew must be 李玉堂's son, 王柏杰 as 少爷李重光 who was also supporting FQFM. Both didn't tell 李玉堂 about this though 陈少白 is guilt-ridden.

甄子丹 as 赌徒沈重阳 is one of the local police who helped 阎孝国's people killed 戏班's men. 沈重阳 was 范冰冰 as 妾侍月茹 ex-husband, his gambling habits made her leave him with their daughter for 李玉堂. Knowing 李玉堂 will be involved for the mission, 侍月茹 convinced 沈重阳 to protect him by telling him the daughter is his, he should do something right so that in future she could tell their daughter, her father is 沈重阳. 谢霆锋 as 车夫阿四 worked for 李玉堂, his character is simple, never study but keen to learn and likes the 照相馆's owner's daughter. 李玉堂 did arranged the marriage before the mission.

D-day came, it lasted quite a while, the whole action sequence from Mr Sun arriving, the people protecting him, the main cast dying one by one, 阎孝国's team trying to assasinate, 李宇春 as 戏班女方红 avenging for his dad, 刘郁白's new look and almost invincible stopping countless baddie from advancing, 沈重阳 crashing himself against 阎孝国's horse, etc

Not to forget, not sure how he got his beggar like Lion King hair rebonded. Though abit heavy, overall it is quite entertaing. 8/10

Avatar 3D

Touted as the most anticipated movie of the year. The guy behind this, James Cameron who was behind Titantic, still the world's most grossed movie. Avatar was like his baby, 12 years in the making.

With both actual persons and 3D characters in an Epic told on the planet of Pandora, the plot, scripts, the native language and 3D effects.

He used motion capture animation technology to create photo realistic computer characters, this also allow him to see both the actual actors and 3D characters in real time thus able to make any immediate adjustments.

Humans are on Pandora. Their aim is to colonize the planet where unobtainium is abundant, this mineral sells for $20 million per kilo. But there are a few problems, first humans can't breath on Pandora. The most difficult problem is the native Na'vi, an indigenous sentient humanoid race who are considered primitive by human standards, yet are more physically capable than them. Their home on a gigantic tree is the ground where the source of unobtainium is.

The Avatar program is to create genetically engineered human-Na'vi hybrid bodies, also integrated with human genes. Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine, is the head of the program. But she has a problem, ths cost of these Avatars is high and their main objective is to link them between the humans and the native Na'vi. But the Na'vi treated these hybrids with contempt and mistrust. Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, the main guy in the movie, a retired marine. His brother, a scientist who worked on the Avatar program as killed. Thus, he signed up as his avatar should be able to gel with similar genes. He came to Pandora with Joel David Moore as Norm Spellman, a biologist.

The humans volunteer sleep in capsules to control their Avatar. When the Avatar sleeps, the humans go back to their normal lives, sounds familiar, like Surrogates. Jake's first attempt to control his Avatar simply thrilled him as he is able to walk and run, something which he can't do now. His first field trip out with Grace wasn't something he expected, he found himself facing creatures from Pandora.


The Hammerhead Titanothere, this massive creature extremely territorial and hierarchical but is not predatorious. Jake standing still seems to appease these creatures.

But soon came the Thanator, the fiercest panther like creature in Pandora, inject fear into all creatures on Pandora. He fled upon Grace's advice and though manage to stay alive, he was lost.

Into the night, he was attacked by Viperwolves. They are swift, moved in a pack and had great sense. Though Jake seems to have the upper hand earlier, there was too many of them. Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, the Na'vi princess came and saved him. This character as all Na'vi are computer generated. He brought him back as Eywa seems to spoken. Facing her parents and their people, Neytiri's mother, Mo'at asked Neytiri to teach Jake to be one of them, Tsu'Tey, their finest warrior strongly dislike this idea. On the other hand, Jake was asked by Colonel Miles, to gather information advantagous to them in the event an hostile attack is needed. Jake is in some sort of triple 无间道, gaining trust within the Na'vi, helping Grace and also Miles.

As his time in Na'vi grew, he fell in love with Neytiri. Eventually he passed the training and test, bonding with an Ikran, a must for all Na'vi warriors. It is dangerous as the person as to entered the Ikran territory, facing numerous of them and choose the one that he believes can bond with him. As he failed to convince the Na'vi to move and in one of the human's mining work, Jake attacked one of the machine which was captured by the cam. James, the administrater gives the order to attack the hometree, thinking Jake betrayed them. Miles lead the first hostile attack and successfully brought down the hometree, leaving the Na'vi fleeing. Grace and Jake before they could explained was taken off their Avatar and held captive in Hell's gate. Neytiri was very angry as she felt betrayed by Jake.

Trudy, a retired marine pilot who flew Grace and co frequently in their trips managed to rescue them, taking one of the mobile station and went deep into the Na'vi forest. But Grace was shot while they escaped, with the capsule in the mobile station, Jake is back to his Avatar and hopes to regain the trust of the Na'vi by taming the mother of all ikran which he did. Flying it in and he managed to convince the Na'vi whom still mourning death of Neytiri's father. Jake vowed to fight the humans along with the Na'vi. He also asked Mo'at to save Grace, transferring her life to the Na'vi body but it was too late, as her life was too frail.

Her death really pissed Jake off. As he boost the morale of the Na'vi and gathered more help here and there, preparing for the final showdown. It was a battle between the pursuits of greed through hostility and the fight for their own land and freedom. As Miles and his troops advance from air to the hanging mountains, they waited as the Na'vi prepared themselves on land and in the air. With Jake leading Tsu'Tey and Neytiri, they seems to have a upper hand as their determination to stop this invasion is strong. But as the battle continued, they are overpowered by the fire power. As Tsu'Tey scacrified to stop them from dropping the crates of bombs and Neytiri's ikran got shot down, she was faced with troops and AMPs, it seems the end of Na'vi was impending. Of course, they won't die, if not, how to do a sequel if it earns loads of $ worldwide. 8/10

Friday Lunch@Wild Honey

A new place in the ever growing Orchard area. This place serves numerous type of breakfast all day, located at the recently opened Mandarin Gallery. Good place for people who like to have breakfast like food anytime of the day. The main breakfast items mostly ranged from $18 to $24, not cheap at all. The English and New York looks good. You get to see the pictures in a iPhone at the ordering counter.


This is my Wild Mocha Dulce ! I like it but just a bit sweet, maybe of the honey.
Nice mix of right expresso and chocolate, not too overwhelming. The banoffee brulee taste as nice, great for those who wanted something cold.


The NY comes with those small and juicy tomatoes, scrambled eggs with tuna I think and bagel with cheese. The English has more stuff, potatoes, mushrooms, sausage, bacon, scrambles eggs and some salsa like dips with beans in it. Other than they are pricey, nothing really fantastic about the food. The breakfast I had at Sala Phuket beats this. But being at a prime location, probably will attract its fair bit of customers or tourists willing to pay the premium for all day breakie.

风云 II

Certain scenes was shot in bluescreen, if you have watched 300, it will be something like that. No wonder it looked fake, comic like but lucky not all scenes are like that. This 2nd instalment is very CGI effects laden. Movie started with 东瀛霸主 绝无神 capturing the emperor of 神州, 步惊云, 上代武林神话－无名 and some ka xiao. They kena some 麻香毒 which weakens them but 无名's ka kia is able to give them some antidote in time. They break free but 步惊云 who sprung towards 绝无神 and dealt him a blow which felt nothing to him, his 杀拳 injured Mr Bu.

Then 聂风 came, his 风神腿 also has no effects on 绝无神. 无名 behind was preparing to dealt his most powerful move, 万剑归宗. The CGI was for this was nice and the 酝酿 for him to unleash it towards 绝无神 was not bad, 绝无神's 不灭金身 blocked all his 剑 with the last one piercing all the way through his shield. Eventually, 绝无神 prevailed, then the rest of the ka xiao tried their luck, then in the mid of the chaos, 步惊云, 聂风 and 无名 fled. 无名 is injured, asking 风云 to go find 邪皇, someone 无名 thinks can defeat 绝无神. But this 邪皇's is wierd, rarely involved in any pugilistic matters.

风云 knelt in front of the cave, begging 邪皇 to come out but to no avail till 第二梦 came, who he really dotes on. 第二梦 and 楚楚 are the 2 persons who have fixed opening lines, their words always starts with "风大哥" and "云大哥". 邪皇 did came out but he is already without both his arms, he cut them off years back when he couldn't control the demonic force within himself when trying to train the demonic way. He advised the only way to increase internal strength fast is to go the demonic way. 风 was chosen and he agreed to do it. 风 ask 云 to kill him if he is nto able to control the demon.

While 风 trained under 邪皇， 云 went to Ling Ying temple upon 无名's request but only to be attacked by a masked man. This duel somehow invoked 云's ability. The masked man is 无名, he wanted to impart 云 his 剑法 which 云 did and also added his own 悟性, thus coming out with a new 剑法. And obviously 无名 don't know how to write, named the 剑法 as "云十"剑法, Mr Bu even answered he doesn't know how to read this word, 无名 says "It is not a known word, he just written it out of seeing how his new 剑法 was formed".

云 returned to the cave but was too late as 风 break out of his training to save 第二梦. But 云 was asked by 邪皇 to go to another cave to stop 绝无神 who is finding the 龙骨 which somehow determine the 命脉 of 神州.

He came in time and with his new 剑法 and 无名's 一成功力, 云 was able to fight 绝无神, almost. This scenes also have some nice CGI effects.

Then 风 came, in his demonic form, weaving this 魔刀, sometimes fighting 云 and sometimes against 绝无神. Eventually, 风 cut off 绝无神's arm and 云 piercing through his body. With him dead, seems no more story. All left was 云 trying to save 风 from permanently 入魔. The last battle was abit too long and ended abruptly. 7/10

Zombieland

This movie is different from other zombie movie. It is a comedy but not that other zombie movies are not comedy but very few, at least I have not watched one before this. Life rated 4 stars for this, that elevates this from "should watch" to close to "must watch". But probably more zombie killing will makes this more entertaining.

Columbus is one of those surviving after America suffered the zombie apocalypse, some virulent form of mad cow disease. It not really slapstick and has some really funny moments. Columbus goes by his rules of survival in this zombieland, clearly shown out on screens to the audience, in action and words splashed across the screen. Along the movie, some lower priority rules were also reminded and new ones added. His car brokedown along his way to the Ohio, to check whether his parent is still alive. He Tallahassee, seemingly some zombie killing experts, they travelled together.

They stopped at a grocery store where they enjoy some zombie killing spree. Tallahassee has been searching for his twiggie, a sponge like cake with creams in it, one of his way of enjoying the little things in life.

He didn't find it but found 2 sisters, Wichita and little rock. They were conned into handing over the weapons and car. Wichita is bringing little rock to LA, some theme park saying without any zombies.

The guys walked and TCSS, found a hummer.

They drove then met the girls again. And got conned again, to hand over the weapons and car. Columbus then suggest a compromise and travelled together. Along the way, the stopped by some souvenior store where they smashed up everything. Wichita blurted that Ohio was already burnt to ground, that somehow like broke Columbus's hope but he realised his new hope is Wichita, whom he liked.

Before reaching LA, Tallahassee brought them to Bill Murray's house. Somehow don't understand why this part of the plot is needed, they spend some time there, bonding, Wichita also realised she has feelings for Columbus. Forget to mention, Bill Murray did appear as himself, posing like zombie. Columbus shot him :) Then the girls left again, heading to the amusement park. They found it and yes ... no zombies ... but before they turned on all the lights. Zombie from far saw and headed towards there. They got themselves stucked in the vertical shoot up ride.

Time for the guys to be heroes. One of the rule Columbus has to break. 7/10

Case 39

Case 39 is weak. I didn't read the storyline before seeing this movie. But as the movie starts, you can know the plot. Renee Zellweger is Emily, some social worker but deals more with family problems. Though already piled up with so much work, her boss needs to work over and hand her case 39, opening up the file shows a sweet and innocent young girl picture, Lillith, at that instance, you know she will be the total opposite. The funny part is it takes quite a long while to pave the path for the audience to know what was wrong with the girl.

Then in between before she knew and when she know, the movie employes cheapskate scaring tactics, sudden knock on doors, office partition, car window to scare people, this usually will work but too much makes it seems quite bo liao. The case was brought to social services because Lillith's grade drop very badly and reportedly couldn't sleep at night.
Seeing her parents gives you a more creepy feeling, it tries to mislead the audience that the parents can be bad, but from a plot point of view, this doesn't drive at all.

So we waited till things unfold, upon investigations, Emily didn't find anything suspicious that the parents could be harming Lillith but she gave Lillith her house number, just to be sure. Without evidence, Emily couldn't do anything, she even seek help from her police friend, Mike but to no avail.

She called one night. Emily rushed over and frantically she called Mike who came over. And they stopped her parents from burning Lillith alive in the oven. With this, the parents are put behind bars, the mum going into a mental institution and dad into prison. Emily's psychologist friend, Doug who liked her was providing help for Lillith's aftermath. Then something different came about, Emily became personally involved, she was touched by Lillith's plight and pleas. And requested for her to stayed with her, something not allowed in her line of work. You know "things" are happening soon ....

Then it started. A boy at her counselling class and also school was found clobbering his parents to death, though the process wasn't shown, the blood on the bed explained it. Then traces show Lillith called him at the night of the crime which she deny. Emily became suspicious and of course freaking out at the same time, she visited Lillith old house to get some stuff and saw her parent's room door have signs of multiple locks, dragging signs on the floor, etc. She was thinking the parents was bastards and doesn't allow Lillith to come in at night.

When Emily found out Lillith did make the call, she wanted to seek some truth. She went to see her parents, her mum not in a state of sanity, so only the dad can share something. Truth is out, she is some demonic thingie or whatever. She feeds on people's fear and somehow makes them see their fear which usually causes death. And she hops from targets to targets. Now Emily is really "Lao Green Shit", Lillith also knew she visited her dad. She started to show signs of confirm not the "sweet and young innocent" girl". She "free drop" the lift with Emily and her in it when Emily disallow her to go to school anymore. When emily locked herself up in the room at night, Lillith's demonice banging on the door starts, now she can related why the parent's room got multiple locks and cabinet dragged to block the door.

Liked the scene where Doug so called interview Lillith, quite creepy. She protrayed a young girl initimidating an adult, even one as a SME, quite well. Soon after that, Mr Doug died, felling to his death in his own toilet by hoards of hornets, probably before he could laid Emily. The last one to die ... must be Mike. He died before he can help emily to "kill" Lillith. The boss didn't die because he has to Emily and tell her Mike was dead. Anyway, she did get rid of her in the end. 6/10

Ninja Assassin

A must watch for rain hardcore fans. Reportedly endure months of yucky food and daily of training to prepare for this movie. Rain is Raizo, some kid who was kidnapped as a child by some Ozunu Clan.

They trained assassins from young and then ripped rewards when they were hired to kill. But then rain can't be a baddie for his first movie, so he fled halfway after the one he loved, also from the clan was killed after being captured after escaping.

Raizo then found Mika, some europol agent who somehow can linked all the historical investigations of murders and killings with ninjas. As she and her boss dwelled deeper, they were hunted by ninjas, of course. Raizo found her and saved her. Asking her to help him find the Ozunu Clan but that didn't really need to work as they were finding both of them.

Lots of slashing, blood gore, limbs and hands flying around, halved heads and bodies. The blood still looked CGI but definitely much more realistic than the movie Blood. Mika's boss Ryan, bluffed her into getting Raizo to meet him but captured him. To no avail, the Ozuno clan came quickly, the agents/soilders were no match. Simply just there to be killed. Mika manage to free Raizo in time who saved her but he was badly injured.

They had a plan, letting the Ozuno clan captured Raizo but a tracking device allows the europol to track the location of the Ozuno HQ. Raizo recovered along the way by just doing some hand gestures with his palms closed, the sword wound looking like few foot long hot dog buns being cut opened just healed like that, "ninjaly".

At the HQ, it was final showdown between Takeshi and Raizo. Takeshi is the leader of the team send to get Raizo, also the one that killed his lover. He didn't die pretty definitely so did the teacher, Lord Ozuno. 7/10

A Christmas Carol

Robert Zemeckis's 3rd performance capture animation after Polar Express and Beowulf. This is in 3D as well. The 3D effects was quite abundance. Jim Carrey first appearance in a Disney film and also voice multiple characters in the movie. Christmas always gives a very nice, soothing and joyful feel, like a time to give and share.

The plot is nothing new as it is re-telling the Charles Dicken novel. JC is Ebenezer Scrooge, a guy who simply doesn't believes christmas. He refuses to visit his nephew, Fred, for the christmas dinner and had to asked his employee Bob to beg for day off during christmas, not to mention he is underpaid.


That night, Scrooge's previous business partner visited him, problem is he is dead. He warned him that he will be haunted by 3 spirits of Christmas. Ghost of Christmas Past is the also JC. This is the first spirit who brought him back to his past, the times he spend in boarding school where his father neglected him over the holidays. Finally his sister brought him home, then died after giving birth to Fred. Scrooge then became successful in doing his money lending business and also met Belle, his love. But it ended with her leaving him, as he became obesessed in growing his own wealth. He couldn't watched anymore and extinguished this spirit.

Then came Ghost of Christmas Present. This spirit showed him all the happiness of his nephew and employee Bob. Even though Bob can only eat Goose and also tending to a sick son, Tim. It showed them living happily within their means, their commitment to Christmas touches Scrooge. Before the spirit leaves, it warned him of him becaming a despicable individual. Lastly is Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, he saw what resulted of his greed. Tim died, he also died with Fred inheriting his wealth and even his maid robbed him after his death. He is devestated and awoken on his bed.

Still in time to ends well, he changed and starts to share and give. Immersed himself in the joyful moments of Christmas. 7/10

Paranormal Activity

This movie has made over 100 million since its full release in the US. Consider it having only a budget of $10,000 to make, it is the most profitable film ever.

The movie try to scare the shit out of the audience with 2 spine chilling theme, one is are things happening when you sleep ? Though towards the end, it even happens when you do not sleep.


The second is depicting some force or entity trying to do something. Comparing to the thai Shutter, this still lose out, probably because it does not really have a plot and twists.

It is shot in documentary style with the main guy Micah setting up a video camera in the house. Objective is to capture or verify the wierd things happening in the house or more specifically to his girlfriend, Katie. It seems these strange things has happened to her since she was young. The initial 15/20 mins was simply just trying to either lengthen the around 90 mins movie or setting the mood. Also introducing the only other character in the movie, this demonlogist, some Dr. He came over and explain what could be the probable reasons, this happened before all the creepy things got captured on camera.

The last 10/15 mins was quite creepy though. One scene was somehow surprisingly "hiong" as the previous night scenes with the video camera capturing their sleeps seems tamed. It captured Katie being dragged out of bed and the room's door and towards another room. Micah did grab her back in time. 7/10

This is it, 2012, My Girlfriend is an Agent

This seems a movie on its own. Like "This is it ... in 2012 .. my girlfriend is an agent" ? But of course not, the MJ movie,

This is it, seriously it is not a movie. Just a recorded version of his concert rehersal, was thinking there will be some snippets of his other parts of this life.

Basically, it was just song after song, towards the end, you get tired about it, probably this is for hardcore MJ fans.

But no doubt, it was nice watching most of his hits getting rehersed on stage, those are unforgettable tunes, even though I doubt I remember their names when I heard them when young. 7/10

In 2012, how do you show the world caming to an end in 2 1/2 hours ? This movie did quite a great job, though there are some "trying to lengthen" movie parts but still bearable. No big cast, In 2009, Adrian, an american scientist went to India to meet his friend Satnam. To verify the increasing temperature of the earth's core. Adrian flew back to US immeidately to tell Chief of Staff, Carl. They in turn met the President and he told the G8 head of states this bad news. The day will be Dec 12, 2012. This started a secret mission to build humungous ships that will be able to withstand the impact of this armaggedeon. Tickets to these ships are discreetly on sale for $1 billion euro.

Adrian's job will be predict the exact date and time this will be happening. Then it jumped to 2012, Jackson, a writer fetching his kids to camping from Lily his ex-wife place. They head to Yellowstone park and found themselves going into a out of bound area. They were brought by the army back to their temporary camp. Jackson met Adrian and Adrian "deliberately" by the plot, was reading Jackson's book. Jackson was freed and they camped overnight. At the same time, Jackson met Charlie, some over-doing wierdo running a radio station, spreading to the whole world his belief of armagedeon date and government trying to build some huge planes/ships. Jackson was quite convinced, almost there.

At the same moment, Kate and her husband, Gordon survivied a quake at the supermarket. Jackson send the kids home immediately, then went back to fetch the 2 russian boys, kids of his boss, seems like he is doing some chaffeur temp job. The kids blurted they have tickets and they will live and he will die. Then by the plot, he has to believe and pay some pilot to wait for him at the airfield. He rush to Kate and the kids, he arrived but the quake happend. The scene where they blazed through the city which was annihilated by the quake was quite awesome.

They reached the airfield but the pilot was dead. Why would you need a new husband in the cast ? Because he was suppose to know how to fly. They manage to fly off but only just, forced to land at Wyoming for more fuel. And Jackson ran off to Charlie to ask him about the map where the ships will be build. This scene where the whole yellowstone blazed into a splurting volcano, great CGI effects too. They flew off in time too but then they knew having to get to China, this plane is not possible. They landed at McCaran airport, they met Yuri, his russian boss and again why you need Gordon ? Because the Antonov 225 plane needs a co-pilot, Yuri's man Sasha will be the pilot !

They managed to flew off as Las Vegas was destroyed. The plan is to refuel in Hawwali but it was simply submerged in lava so they plan to crash land into the ocean but there is a problem. As the earth crust shifted, they are already at Himalayas, they crash landed with Sasha perished with plane. Out in the cold, Chinese helicopters landed and took Yuri and his kids as he had green ticket. How will Jackson and his family survive ? Now I know why the little lama was needed ? He appeared at the start as he wanted to save his family too. His brother who was working to build the ships found a plan to smuggle them into the ship. Jackson saw this lama driving by and by the plot he has to ferry them.

Suppose to have 6 ships, one was down so alot of people will be abandoned. But Jackson convinced the head of states to open their ship's gate and let the people in. This happened when Jackson they all trying to sneak in, as the gate was let down, it pulled in Gordon, he was crushed, no more flying needed, so he was "ended". Jackson and all was in safely but something was stucked, the gate cannot close fully. Quite an exhilarating ending. It ended well if you think so, as the ship head to South Africa. 7/10

My Girlfriend is a action comedy but it seems to try do do too much in 2 hrs. The gf was an agent thus trying so hard to hide her actions and whereabouts. It is almost impossible to hide so they broke up. 3 years later, the bf became an agent. Both on the same mission but different targets and from different government teams.

As a rookie, he tries hard to impress and wants on the field actions, thought not very successful but no choice, it needs the comical moments.


They met again in the toilet, she was disguising a lady cleane as she was staring so hard at a guy peeing. Then it revealed it was him, she beat him up like no tomorrow. They ended up in the police station, quite a comical scene too.

Then it was "both carry on with their jobs and trying to get back together", this carried on for quite long, it feels abit long till they messed up in one missions. The teams watching back the recorded tape, found each other and think they were the bad guys. Some professor trying to sell some virus to some russians is the action plot. This was filmed along with comical moments of the 2 main leads. One of the last scene was quite funny at some outdoor event, the bf trying to chase his gf who was chasing the russian girl. He got himself on some donkey or mule, the scene showed the bf on his mule donkeyed past the russian guy who earlier sped off in a bike, he was re-fuelling. 7/10

Saw VI

What is Saw 6 if Saw 7 and 8 are still coming up ? The first one was good, maybe so was the second one. The theme of the movie was quite interesting at that time but of course with the disgusted and gross way of how the human body was being designed to bleed, cut off, crushed, burnt, torn apart, exploded, etc, it adds to the entertaining level.

Quite a number of characters has evolved from 1 to 6, even when Jigsaw died since, the sequels kept going on. Missed the first 15 mins but from wiki, it seems as gross as 2 bodies were found. Mark Hoffman is the detective who was being informed by the FBI. He is the one who continued with Jigsaw's games. As he met Jigsaw ex-wife Jill, who gave him 5 envelopes as they started to plan the next game, involving William, some guy who is an executive on some insurance company who Jigsaw met when Jill opened her clinic.

Anyway, William was captured and asked to pass 6 tests in 60 mins. In the whole course, he met people he know. First he had to compete with his janitor to see who can breath lesser so as not to let the machine crushed his body. The janitor didn't make it.

Then as the go across doors and rooms, he found he was grabbing onto 2 steel like chains, each holding onto 2 colleagues, he has to choose which one to let go, the one he let go will be hanged to death.

Thirdly, he went into some boiler room where his attorney has 90s to run through a cage like structure before something strung around her chest activates which will fire a spike through her head. Also he has to stop jets of steam pumping at her by diverting it to himself. She did made it but only knowing there is a key which was in his stomach. Knowing that, she took up some saw and tried to cut him to get the key. She failed.

Then came 6 of his junior workers strapped around a merry go round, seems very theme park like but not if some shotgun is pointing at you. Each turn will stopped a person at the shotgun position. William can decide if he/she lives by putting his hand into something which will pierced through his palm but also elevating the shotgun upwards thus missing the person. Quite a frantic ride.

Lastly, he was into between 2 cages. One with his sister, the other a mother and son, whose William deny coverage for the latter's husband. There is a switch in the mother/son cage, "live" or "die". The mother couldn't bear to kill William but the son can. Doing that unleashed a bed of needles flunging down piercing William's back and with that, hydrofluoric acid was pouring through, disintegrating him into halves.

On the other hand, the FBI is close to finding Mark is into all these killings but he is faster as he killed them in the laboratory. He used Strahm's severed hand to leave prints behind. Jill attacked Mark and strapped him to a chair and attached the "reverse bear trap" on him but he did manage to escape but with a portion of his face/jaw torn apart. 6/10

Jennifer's Body

Jennifer's body is slow, tries to be scary and funny, simply disappointing. It was advertised this came from the people who wrote Juno, though I didn't watch Juno but it seems popular. The main elements are entertaining but somehow if strung together, it is really bad. Even Megan Fox's cleavage couldn't save the movie.

Anita and Jennifer were best friends in some school since young, wearing the same necklace bearing BFF initials. One night, J asked A to follow her to some bar where indie band low shoulder is performing, J soon developed a crush on the lead singer Nikolai. He and another member concluded that she could be an virgin. Then a fire started and N brought a distraught J somewhere. Soon J found they were worshipping Satan and wanted her to be some sacrifice. N repeatedly stabbed her.

But miraculously, J returned covered with blood and wound to A's house. A was shocked when J went to the fridge and stuffed herself with food. Then J just threw up disgusted blackened stuff of don't know what. Since that day, with the town people still grieving the bar's accident, the football captain was killed in a savage way. Then soon colin, some guy who asked J out for a date, was also killed. Coincidentally, A was having sex with her bf Chip at the same time, the horrifying scenes of colin getting killed flashed in her mind.

A finds it too weird and did some research. She thinks she is a succubus, some devil who is hungry and must feed on flesh to survive. Without that, she looked pale and haggard. A needs to stop her as she feels Chip is J's next target. A told C not to go to some dance event where low shoulder was invited by the school. C goes anyway and of course J was there to led her to some closed down house with a pool. A arrived but not really in time. As C try to save A, he pierced J with some javelin like object, J fled but C died.

A wanted to take revenge and later attacked J in her room. Eventually A did killed her and A was admitted to a mental hospital. 5/10

Haeundae - The Deadly Tsunami

This is more of a dramedy rather than a disaster movie. Movie started on a small ship in the middle of a storm facing a impending tsunami. Man-sik lost his colleague due to his mistake. He told Man-sik to take care of his daugther Yeon-hee with his last breadth. Years later, Man-sik unable to allow himself to get involved with Yeon-hee, though Yeon-hee wanted to, also because she does not the truth of her father's death. Man-sik's uncle plan to convert this Haeundae area into a more commercial area has been trying to fix the soured relationship, the latter being blamed for the accident, allowing the ship to go out knowing there was a storm.

From here till the tsunami hits, numerous characters appeared and having their own story, started to get abit confusing but straighten out once no more new characters came out. Dong-choon his neighbour doesn't want to get a proper job and always letting his mother worry, whom even arranged an interview for him. Geologist Kim Hwi, the "guy" in a typical natural disaster movie, he will tell the whole world it is coming but whole world "must not" believe what he say. His ex-wife Yoo-jin also arrived at Haeundae with their daugther due to work. Kim Hwi even got time to go find his daugther when she got lost on the beach but only got scolded by Yoo-jin.

Hee-mi, a college student accidentally fell into sea during a sea trip. Lifeguard Hyeong-sik, Man-sik's brother saved her but not in a pleasant "damsel in distress" way. Hee-mi was angry and somehow kept following him to annoy him but love grew eventually. Man-sik eventually proposed to Yeon-hee but was messed up by Dong-choon who told her the truth. Before Man-sik could explained, it came. About time some action amid the melodrama.

The tsunami raving in at hundred of kiometres per hour, towering over any buildings on the island. Apart of the good CGI effects, the melodrama continued. Man-sik uncle saved him from pulled away from the rushing water but only to be dragged away by the floating cabinet. Dong-choon survived miraculously along some bridge after the raging tsunami rushed through it, soon after that, he has to deal with a container ship stucked vertically on the bridge and it rained "containers" soon. More tragedy struck, his mother supposedly should be out of Haeundae for a picnic trip, decided not to at the last minute so she can go and get a pair of leather shoes for him. Hyeong-sik scarificed when the rope pulling him and some rich brat who beat him up due to Hee-mi gave way, Hee-mi was devastated. The "guy" also died with his wife but managed to sent their daughter away in the helicopter. Man-sik and Yeon-hee did survive. 7/10

500 Days of Summer

This movie is not the norm romantic comedy but somehow I sort of like it. Movie is presented in a non-chronological order but eventually reached the 500th day. It doesn't really get messy like Heroes or Lost which probably already make some people insane. Story is simple when boy meets girl but girl doesn't really like the boy.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tom, find him familiar but still couldn't remember which movie or drama I saw him. Zooey Deschanel is Summer, find her familiar too and I knew where I seen her, in "Yes Man" ! Summer came into Tom's life when she joined his company as his boss's assistant. Tom studied architect but somehow ended up writing greeting cards, he writes those inspirational ones, happy ones with love. Not much mention of why summer came here but Tom who believes in true love likes her.

His 2 quite goony friends McKenzie and Paul are round to give crap advice, check updates and eventually consoling him etc.

During one company karaoke session, Mckenzie let out that Tom like her. That starts his journey of extreme emotions, happy and depression. Summer didn't really reject him and started going out with him.

They are happy together, Tom show him his favourite place in the city, the ikea scene is quite funny.

Though they had a argument when he punched a guy in a pub because of her. But there is one problem, for summer, something is missing and she doesn't want a relationship.

They broke up eventually. Tom didn't take it well, the friends and his little sister started to console him. Summer quit and Tom was moved to write consolations obviously losing all happy elements. Months later, both attended a co-worker weddings and was like happy moments came back. She invited him to a party at her place. Though what he expected and what was real was way off, at the party, the sight of the engagement ring made Tom left in a hurry.

Tom quit and went into alchohol/junk food mode. One day, he set his mind to go into architect work, though didn't really goes well. At Day 488, Tom met Summer at his favourite spot, both wishes both well. Then at Day 500, at an interview, he met a girl eyeing for the same job. Her name is Autumn. 8/10

Surrogates

This movie surpassed the B grade expectation. It is 2017, where human don't leave their homes. They stayed in some kind of cocoon pod and remotely controlled their "surrogates" who lived their daily lifes. Since the human are safe at home, there are no pain and crimes but underneath the beautiful and handsome robotic bodies, not every human is happy. There are groups of human who still live by themselves, lead by "The Prophet", anti-surrogates.

Bruce Willis is FBI agent Tom, he investiage the first murder in years. A student Jarod Canter was killed, the son of the founder of surrogate Dr Lionel Canter, former president of VSI, the company that invented and made surrogates. The problem here was killing a surrogate was not suppose to kill the human but this one did. And the guy also killed several cops.

Of course, not on his own, he was using some "black & decker" look like dust buster, that emits some kind of electro magnetic pulse or something.

As Tom try to find this guy, he speak to Dr Carter and found out he is using multiple surrogate but information he provided was not useful. He did track him down and almost killed when he blast the black & decker at his chopper but the human Tom managed to unplug in time. Then he chase him into human territory but before he can get this hand on the weapon, his surrogate was gun down by humans.

The guy was held captive by the Prophet and he took the weapon then killed the guy. Tom survived the blast and now living using his own body. As he was trying to make his wife understand and step out of her surrogate, his investigations lead no where. A tip by Dr Canter lead Tom to a more specific direction, the only possible organization that could build such a weapon, the Army. As he digged deeper, he found out his boss, Stone was involved. VSI made this weapon but project was cancelled due to it also killing the human. VSI paid Stone to use this weapon to kill Canter who was out to stop this surrogate revolution which he made himself.

Because the old Canter was using multiple surrogates, the guy mistakenly killed his son instead. Some twist in the end, the Prophet was also a surrogate by Canter and with the weapon in his hand, he planned to end everything but of course "Die Hard" saved the day. Abit short overall, not sure if the plot could be more complex and intriguing. 7/10

Fame

"Success is getting up in the morning and so thrilled about what you will be doing that you will fly out the door". Probably won't happen to me in this life, is like a matter of knowing what you like, what you good at and how much $ you get, etc. Back to the movie, fame is the typical kind of drama about living your dream but specifically in the performing or entertainment arena.

The movie starts with people going for auditions at the New York School of Performing Arts, 200 places from 10s, 20s thousands people.

So you see the main cast during the auditions, you find people good at dance, act, sing and instruments, etc. Though some find that they are even better at other stuff throughout the movie.

Marco who is good at singing and likes Jenny, the girl who couldn't free up during acting. He sang "Try" while playing the piano to Jenny, that earn him a kiss from her. Denise who excel in playing classical on the piano found out actually what she really like was singing. Like the song that she sang "Out on my own", an original, she did the piece in the movie when she was down, her parents dispproving her to sing.

Kevin and Alice were in dancing, ballet one of its kind. Kevin is not showing more than his potential and barely made it throughout. And he had to face the reality when the teacher rejected his request to write a recommendation letter and also told him the truth that he probably won't make it as a dancer. He almost wanted to flung himself onto a rushing train "Quentin Tarantino" style but of course this is "Fame", so that didn't happen.

Malik has problem doing well in acting class and living with his sister's death and dad abandoning him. But found his real talent in rapping and together with Victor, who is good at producing music. They try to hook themselves and Denise up with a company but the guy who worked with big names in the industry is only interested with Denise. They did churn out a good performance at some club place i assume.

Too many characters thus not much detailed development in each, just scattered bits here and there. It is more to indulge in the "performing" elements, like a musical but not entirely. The scene where they are started dance and sing in the cafeteria was quite entertaining. 7/10.

Phobia 2

It seems after "shutter", there isn't any really good horror thriller. That kind of chilling scare in shutter really inched up your spine and raised your goosebumps. Phobia 2 is a follow up from the previous 4bia, no relation though. Just another 5 short film, different stories but same kind of scare tactics.

First is Novice. Young Pey commited a crime, next scene he was brought to a monastery by his mother. The time coincides with some hungry ghost period and the rebellious pey reluctantly stayed. And there seems to be some tree spirit playing around with his karma, towards the end, it revealed the crime he commited was throwing a stone at a car and somehow was his fathers'. He was stoned to death in the end and seemingly became one of the tree spirit.

Second is Ward. The most straightforward one. A young man injured his legs and was hospitalized and warded into the same room as an dying old man. The old man is going anytime and was ready to unplug the machine but a group of man came by and request to delay for 1 day. Then the scare the audience tactics just came, as he was immobile so he can just lie around and kena scared the shit of himself. But the next morning, we did get the answer of what happen. The old man seems like some master now is in the young man body.

Third is BackPackers. 2 japanese young kids stranded along some road hitchhiked onto a truck, the driver with another young man. As they drive along, suddenly heavy pounding sound was heard from the back. The driver stopped and came down, to his horror, the people he thought he was ferrying all became dead bodies. Then the young man revealed, they are actually human drug traffickers, forced to swallow small packets of drugs. As they dragged the bodies down, the bodies became zombies, the jap kids came down and overheard. The jap guy was zombied to death, the driver quickly drove off. The young man and jap ger ran after the truck, eventually got onto it. The truck crashed and driver died, left the young man and jap ger, somehow another kid, ending was crap though.

Fourth was Salvage. About a unscrupulous used car dealer, selling revamped car that was involved in accidents. Beginning to end was in the used car lot, as she try to search for her son who was playing in the lot. Then all the scare using the cars came, the victims of car accidents visually on and off scaring her but the slight twist in the end was when she drive off in her car.

Last was In the end. This was by the same 4 guys from 4bia, the camping one. This last one was a comedy, not kidding, the audience was laughing like no tomorrow, maybe trying to ease off the scary moments which was little and very within anticipations. They are crew on a movie set, filming a horror movie, plot revolving the 4 guys, main actress and the other actress acting as the ghost. Comedic twists on and off making people think actually she was dead but not, he was dead but not. 6/10

The Ugly Truth

A typical romantic comedy, girl having problems getting her guys, met a guy she dislike, this guy helped her get her guys, then this girl and this guy starts to know, they actually like each other. But there are several hilarous moments, the story is based in Sacramento, Katherine Hiegl is Abby, a morning show TV producer. After coming home from a crap date, he saw Gerard Butler as Mike Chadway on his own show on TV, "The Ugly Truth", telling audience the cynicism about relationship.

This prompted Abby to call in, they argued though to no avail. Next morning, they became colleagues, Mike was brought in to improve ratings on the morning show. Their dislike of each other continued, M find A a control freak while A find M disgusted on his take about relationship and way of doing the show. But truth is the audience like the truth, ratings are up. Then A met his dream guy, his new neighbour, Colin whom is a doctor. M then make a bet with A, he will get her his guy, if not he will quit, if he did, A will co-operate with M during work.

Well, of course M won, proving his theory on relationship with several comical moments. Especially the one at the company dinner where A accidentally wore the "vibrating undies", she dropped the remote and the boy opposite just played with it. As the boy fiddle through level, it finally climax to "ectasy". With his gaining popularity, M got invited to some Late night show so he flew over. A went over also as her boss want her to make M stay at the station.

The trip made them realize they really do like each other, the irresistable passionate kiss in the hotel lift.

Though C surprise visit sort of spoil the spark, though A did broke up with C, telling him everything she did was fake, just trying to please him. Back at Sacramento, M leave for another local station. A was pissed off that M didn't tell his feelings then. It ends well when he finally did in a hot air ballon during one outdoor broadcast. 7/10

District 9

Within my expectation I held for the movie against the good reviews it got. A good movie if you can stand some of the graphical scenes and of course the aliens which appears during most of the time. The storyline did left a few unexplained items but doesn't really matters.

Movie is set in johannsburg where 20 years back an alien spaceship landed there. It didn't have any invasion intention so the government decided to break into the spaceship and to their horror, millions of aliens were found which seems clueless and unhealthy. They were brought down and held in a large area called district 9. Soon it became a slum and a group of nigerian mobster managed to sustain illegal activities with the aliens. Selling them food like pigs, cows and cat food, the alien's favourite.

As years goes by. the prawn like aliens causes some distress among the citizens. So the government engaged MNU, some private group to relocate these 1.8 millions aliens. Funny thing is the team even needs to let the alien sign some eviction form as somehow that is the legal thing to do. The MNU head gave the lead job to his son-in-law, Wikus which he thought initially it was like a promotion but in such movies, this never happen. It was heaven to hell for him. MNU has been collecting the weapons these aliens were using, though having superior technology and power, it cannot be used by a human, seemingly created with biological elements.

It was Day 1 of the operation as Wikus lead a team to get the aliens sign the forms. MNU also has military teams at his disposal, Colonel Kobus is the man leading them. From the moment he appeared, destined he will die a horrible death. As Wikus go to hut by hut, you get to see all the graphical details of the aliens. Till he went to Christopher Johnson, yes the aliens all got names and also somehow understand english and more amazing, their gibberish, the humans also understand. He was collecting soem liquid and doing some experiment. Wikus accidentally spill it onto his face.

To protect the experiment, CJ's friend was killed while Wikus injured his hand. The work stopped and wikus went back and rest, then it started. He started to feel sick and nails fell off. Upon reaching home, he got a surprise party celebrating his promotion but he fainted. He was send to hospital, this moment started his hell experience. As the doctor unbandaged his hand, to their utmost shock, it revealed a claw hand, the mutated infestation started. He was taken away by MNU immediately and they stabilized his condition then used him for experiment which is test the weapons. Wikus was the only combined human and alien, tested he can fire those alien weapons.

That is not all, they wanted to disembered him to gather more information for this human/alien combination. He managed to escape and embarked his journey to recover his human form. MNU hunted him and sited him having illegal inter-species sex and was highly contagious. He couldn't see his wife and initially didn't believe him. He became hopeless and had to eat cat food. Till he found CJ again and found out that he had a way to recover him but it needed the black liquid which is in MNU.


He went from "charging into MNU to get the liquid" to "betraying CJ" then to "sacrifice to saving the aliens". How the nigerian mobster and Kubus died was quite a scene. 8/10

Year One

This movie though is slapstick kind but still sprung some surprises and have some really funny moments. Jack Black is Zed is a not so good hunter and his friend Oh is a gatherer. The starting scene was quite funny, Z hitting his own people with his spear on a hunting trip. Later, Z was caught eating the forbidden fruit. the tribe had to thrown him out. And he accidentally torched Oh's hut, so he followed him on his trip to find the end of the earth.

Along the way, they found brothers Cain and Abel. And witness Cain killed Abel by repeatedly stoning him to death, the slaptick way. But Cain still brought both back to his home, Z thought that was the luckiest day when his father told him he could sleep with his daugther but found out that she is a lesbian. Soon, Cain got Z and O to flee with him, if not, they will be blamed for his bro death.

They bumped into Maya and Eema, the girls both Z and O wanted to have in their tribe. They are captured and being sold as slaves. Cain ended up selling Z and O. But somehow during their trip, Sodomites attacked the slaves owners. Z and O managed to escape but doze off while they waited for a good time to save M and E.

So they continue their journey and saw Abraham trying to kill his son Issac, Z stopped him and told Abraham, Lord send him to stop him. So they brought Z and O back to their village, telling them the sin city of Sodom and Gomorrah. Next morning, they left after Abraham offered to circumsize them, quite a description. As they arrived at Sodom, they were captured and almost sodomized by the guard but was saved by Cain, telling he knew them.

While Cain show them around, the princess saw Z, seemingly think he is different as he didn't bow when she was there. Z and O joined the army so as not to being captured again. The part where they trying to join the first training was funny, as everyone was in line, standing in attention. They comically try to join them but in awkward positioning.

The king trying to get rain has been sacrificing virgins. The princess send for Z, wanted him to go into the Holy of Holies and asked whoever to help to get rain. Meanwhile, O was having a bad time with the high priest, getting him to oil his hairiest body. Both was found in the Holy of Holies and the King punished them to be stoned to death. But Z convinced them he is the chosen one and the public seems to believe, as the advisor trying hard with his hand motion to tell the King they should also go with the public reaction.

So Z and O was spared but was imprisoned. And somehow O was cuffed upside down and had to pee. So pee dripped all over his face. The King then mentioned he will sacrified the princess along with M and E. Of course, Z and O saved the day with some laughs. 8/10

Friday Dinner@Gulf Beach Restaurant

There is alot of stalls selling middle eastern food in the arab street area. This was our last option as the others are crowded. .

This one sells lebanese food. The menu is clear and straightforward. After some thinking, I settle for grilled boneless chicken with lebanese spices, there is a name for it, couldn't remember it.

And it was quite good, well grilled, the meat is succulent enough and the sauces that comes with are good.

The yellowish creamy sauce looked so much like hummus, the one you see in "Don't Mess with Zohan", but the waitress say is garlic sauce. The chilli is abit different with the usual ones we have, it is not savoury but just the right spiciness.

The lamb sausages are also quite nice but has certain spices in it. It comes with some vege like tomatoes and pepper but also drenched with some sauce which is quite sour. The highlight was the lebanese coffee, it tasted like double expresso with 甘草金银花. The guy should have recommended us to get the lenanese sweets with the coffee. You can see what was left the in bottom, a huge deposit in dung form.

Penang Day Four

Last day. The plan was to visit Kek Lok Si and check out before that. An early breakfast then wash up and final packing, then it was check out and pay up. We reached there about 9+ and our car was able to park just right outside of the foot of the temple. This whole place is made up of several temples, a pagoda and you can go right up to see the tallest guan yin in asia or the world, can't remember.

To go the top of the pagoda, you have to climb the spiral stairs about 7 storey, as it gets nearer to the top, the stairs gets steeper and steps narrower. Going down requires careful steps as well. Then is up the inclining lift to see the "in progress" guan yin. You can see pillars are being built around the statue. At this area, there is also another temple where you can see the 12 animals statues outside.

And not to forget, quite a number of souvenior shops along the way. We spend about 1 hr plus here and about time to leave for lunch then airport. Decided to head to queensbay mall to eat canton-i, there was one open in ION recently. Though it is along the way to the airport, we also horlan a few times before we got there. Supposedly the wanton noodles are good, the wanton are huge with generous fillings no doubt, soup is clear and typical wanton kind but lacks the typical MSG. The meat combinations is quite good, especially the char siew which is fatty. Soon we have to rush to the airport for our 1505 flight and of course, need to horlan but still in time to go Petronas to top up the car before return.

Reached airport about 2 pm only to know flight was delayed again. All delayed ends delayed. Anyway, delayed better than miss.

Penang Day Three

Day 3 started late so had the same buffet breakfast again. When we got ready, it was about 11+ .. 12. And we decided to drive across penang bridge to eat seafood near Butterworth, there is this 323 seafood place by the sea. Getting across the bridge was still okay but finding the place was quite a challenge, after numerous horlan and of course help from "bang" wil ... we finally reached !

Considered a late lunch. The seafood selection doesn't seems to be alot, anyway the typical ones were ordered, cereal prawns, fried squids, viet chicken, crab, vege and salted fish bee hoon. The only must mention is the bee hoon ... ermmmm ... yes the bee hoon. Fried till very mi and smooth yet savoury. The crab probably done in the wrong way, she mention something spicy but it taste more like L spices.

Time to head back to George town for the heritage walk. But truth is, somehow nothing much along the trail and simply is like we are the only ones. Maybe is Sunday, some places are closed. The fort wasn't open, not sure it shutdown or at that time already closed. Peranakan Mansion closed at 530 pm. Rest nothing much.

About evening time, no where to go so we head back to Gurney Plaza. And I found this Gelatomio ice cream cart in between the Gurney Plaza and G Hotel area, this was mention in some blog. I got the chocolate mashmarllow but somehow it taste spicy, I think is it something we ate during lunch that cause some reaction. Anyway, it was good, think it was RM 7.

Dinner was settled at Sushi King then head back hotel around 9+. Last day heading to Kek Lok Temple.

Penang - Day Two

I started day 2 with a very cold swim at the pool, located at the 7th flr. It is some kind of infinity pool overlooking gurney walk and the sea, not a full lap pool, despite the damn cold water still managed to go 10 over laps. Then it was wash up and breakie, spread was typical, too typical. The fried noodles and tom yum bee hoon are quite good, the rest are non-mentions.

Then we went off to Penang Hill, we did eventually get there. To get up to the viewing deck, you need to take a almost vertical tram. The elevation gets quite almost vertical when you close in. And you need to switch tram halfway, the way up is still alright, not too much people coming in. The tram is going up real slow the about 800+ m hill, no aircon, sometimes the fan don't work, if the weather is hot, I think it will be quite unbearable.

It was quite cooling up there and the view is not bad. Other than that, there is nothing much up there. The canopy walk is closed. You can walked up a flight of stairs then come to a L temple. Probably why we saw so many L, anyway we went down soon after. The way down is bad, alot of people and no control, like squeezing as much people in the cabins.

Lunch time. Heading towards the famous Penang Laksa near Kek Lok Si. Lucky we manage to find a parking, waited a while for the seats. 2.70 RM a bowl, nothing much in it but taste really good. Initially thought it will have some extreme taste, either too sour, too spicy or too pungent but it didn't. Worth the trip.

Then our plans to go to Kek Lok Si failed as a long jam towards the temple formed so we decided to head back hotel. But somehow, no power in our room. We called housekeeping to check. An L guy came after about 10+ mins but couldn't check because the power box is in the main toilet but tks is releasing "top 10 most toxic substance", coincidentally we watched this on discovery. Pity the guy need to go in and check, probably already kena brain haemorrhage.

He turned on the switch, power came back, he left. While we were resting on the sofa and watching TV, mr wil decided to go and contribute in other toilet. It was just that gum or that kind of "confirm must be you". It blackout again, somehow he mention he retreat at the last min. The problem with that toilet is if you close the door, without lights, it will be pitched black. He came out and while I go and switch back the power circuit. Power came back again.

We continue to rest on the sofa and watch TV. Then wil decided to contribute again since he retreated, as Mr "confirm must be you" goes in and use. It tripped again !!!
This time turning back the circuit didn't work. We have to call them again. This time L and senior L came, took a while for them troubleshoot, anyway it was fixed.

About time to head to Batu Ferringhi. This place is quite disappointing. To get there you need to negotiate a F1circuit with lots of bends, we did made it. We parked somewhere in the middle of the long stretch, attempts to find more good food didn't really materialize as we came unprepared. And we walked up rather than down, downwards seems to have a quite big hawker like eating place. Anyway, we settle for tse char. After dinner, it was stroll along the stretch of pasar malam but after a while it gets boring because the stalls simply duplicated along, selling pirated stuffs from bags, watches, DVDs, sunglasses, ties, cuff links and some souveniers.

Penang - Day One

Not a good start, the tiger flight was delayed due to late come in of the plane. It was supposed to be 1015 but became 1130, still okay. We arrived at Penang Airport around 1 pm, then went to get the rented Vios, took a while. After verifying the car, off we go. Plan was to go to Komtar first to get some penang info, we have 2 GPS software on hand, Sygic on my iPhone and Garmin on tks's nokia.

Since tks was the volunteered driver, wil try to get the garmin to plot the route, seems easy, was smooth till we make a wrong left turn into Jusco. So the garmin will say "re-calcuting", off we go again but still horlan a few times so we decided to check in hotel first. We sense something not right when wil keep saying we are 250 KM away. tks found out he may have chosen the wrong KOMTAR which is in JB, that explained .. kaoz .. why need 250 KM ? To verify against the garmin, I used my Sygic to plot as well. Finally, it seems we are on the right road, hitting Jalan Kelawi then Persiaran Gurney. The Gurney is along the coastal, seeming a 4 star 36 storey hotel.

Our room is 2902, a 2 bedroom suite at 340 RM per night. Checked in was smooth, gave the guy 5 RM who brought up the bags. Though 2 bedrooms, one is slightly bigger and with also a bigger bathroom. The living room has sofa and dining table. This area is good to hang around, rest and wait. The TV is crap, only 20" CRT but there is also one in one of the bedroom. There is also a small kitchen with a cabinet, sink, washing machine, fridge and cutleries.

We head out to Komtar around 3+. But horlan a few times again, so we settled for KFC along Jalan Hutton, housed in some old colonial like building. After food, to Komtar, the 3rd attempt. Traffic getting heavy and the trick in driving there is you must hiong with them but also with some controlled safety. The local drivers there rarely think twice, not to "merge" with you. Esp the motosikalist aka 闪电骑士, they drift like ESPN extreme sports and squeezed into the thinnest space. And also must mention, the roads has alot of y-junctions splits, the left lane merged as and when, driver rarely signal or horn, etc.

Anyway, we finally reached. Parked in some dark dungeon like carpark. Bad start continued as the 55th flr viewing deck has shutdown, together with the so called tourism office. Since there, we dropped by the neighbouring Pranglin Mall to get some food stuff. Then when we decide to head off to somewhere, the traffic turned real bad, jam and horning everywhere, so we just put back our stuff then take a walk along Jalan Macallister.

We went to search for Ghee Hiang, famous for its 马蹄酥 at 216 Macallister. It was quite a walk from where we parked, since we found it so we bought the stuff first. Drizzling still when we left and head back to our car. Traffic had ease so we head for dinner, at Gurney Walk Hawker. Drizzle had stopped when we reach there. It was quite crowded but still managed to get a seat. We had BBQ stingray, sotong, char kway teoh, oyster omelette and rojak. The sotong was good because it has some curry taste, made it savoury. So was the char kway teoh, dry type, no dark sauce but very good. The apom was also good, it is like ultra thin pancake wrap like a tube.

After food, drizzle came back so we head back to hotel.

Bruno

Similar like Borat. This is a slapstick comedy shot in documentary like movie. Of course, with all the added crude jokes and it cannot get any gay. It has a story but somehow are pieced together by short clips which some are meaningless and even at R21, one minute of "acrobatic gay sex" was cut.

Bruno, an down and out gay Austrian fashion reporter decide to go to America to become the most famous austrian superstar since Hilter. Lutz, his assistant's assistant who loved him came along. He attempts an acting career which failed but got a extra role, that didn't go well. Then he try to shoot a video which got badly criticised saying worse than cancer, one scene showing him dangling his penis around.

Then he flew to Jerusalam to interview a former mossad agent and a palestinian politician and confused between hummus and hamas. That didn't take off either, later in some talk show, he show the audience a black baby named OJ who he gotten in exchange with an IPOD. Back at the hotel, bruno and lutz woke up in some bondage equipment after a night of sex.

They walked out to the streets, in the same bondage position, only to be freed by police. Lutz left Bruno, after latter told him he doesn't love him.

Months later, bruno discovered all famous hollywood actors are straight. Thus, he went to seek help from 2 gay converter, though to no avail, he is determined. He got his own show now, as "Straight Dave", some form of body slamming, fighting shows. During of the live show, Lutz appeared and called him "faggot"

Then they started to make out in the middle of the stage, it went well for bruno at least. They got married and got OJ back, exchanged with a macbook pro. 6/10

Another cartoon turned movie and with tonnes of mayhem and chaos. Simply packed with action. Destro is the man behind MARS, Military Armament Research Syndicate, the main pa kia of the movie. He has the doctor, baroness, storm shadow and zartan helping him, so called they are Cobra. He developed some nanotechnology weapons that can destroy a city, like termites capable of eating through any substance. And he sold 4 warheads to NATO.

Duke and Ripcord from the US army were ordered to deliver the warheads but D had it planned, send Baroness to ambush them. Duke and his team simply no match for Cobra's attack. Duke recongnize B as her ex-fiance, then the GIJ came and saved them. The GIJ brought Duke and R back to their base and General Hawk explained who they are blah blah blah.

Duke and R want in to the team so to know what happen to B. As they got familiar with the operations, training, weapones and tests. D send SS and B over to get the warheads and they did successfully. B got them weaponize and they head for Paris, planned to bring down the Eiffel Tower.

The GIJ tracked them and follow suit. Then what ensue was quite a mayhem chasing scene, sending adrenaline quite high. The GIJ didn't manage to stop B to launch the missle but Duke manage to hit the kill switch, thus terminating the damage. Doing so, he got captured and went back to MARS base with SS and B. The Doctor seeing Duke, wanted to experiment on him and revealing who he was, actually was B's brother whom everyone though was dead. B couldn't see Duke dead, saved him but the doctor almost killed his own sister. Duke managed to save B. Meanwhile the GIJ arrvied but was too late as D launched 3 missiles. Snakes Eyes managed to intersect one while R give chase to the other 2 targetting Russia and Washington in some plane.

With the missle aiming at DC, the president was ushered into some bunker which someone appeared and killed the 2 bodyguards. Back at the MARS HQ, SE took care of SS, to avenge for his master. Eventually, R terminate the missles and Duke brought B to safety. The doctor dragging the injured D into some submarine then injected something into him. Then wear some mask on his own face ... and that he became the "Cobra Commander", paving way for the Sequel. 7/10

Sunday Desserts@1 Caramel

This new Patisserie outlet at the Luxe, just beside beside the billy bombers at the cathay. It is not big, inside can seats about 10-15 and some al fresco seats. In a huge glass display, you see all the cakes that you get to eat. So many to choose from on the cakes menu, they have other desserts and food items as well.

The waitress recommended this when I browse the glass display, Chocolate Berry Lust, their best seller. Took her advice though there are a few other items so tempting as well, like red velvet, peanut butter cheese cream tart, chocolate fudge cake, etc.
The CBL is a tart, not a cake, like the one at the Chocolate shop at robertson quay, can't remember the name. Difference is this one tops with different type of berries.
And that difference is good. The chocolate in between the tart and berries has the right sweetness and thick but if had some bitter taste, could been better. Overall, this is a killer tart.




This scouffle is salty, something different and quite good. Baked till so soft inside and with the Yuzu ice cream, the combination is quite awesome.

Sunday Dinner@Etna

This italian restaurant at upper east coast road have not bad reviews on hungrygowhere. Since italian, pastas and pizzas are the mains. The caesar salad is good but ex at $16. Crisp lettuce with lots of bacon shreads and ultra cripsy croutons. And also the huge thin pieces cheese on top of it, all together .. it is good.

The linguine with scallops in pink lobster sauce taste okay ... not bad ... but nothing to hooha about. The sauce is thick kind and don't really can taste any lobster. The must mention are the huge scallops, fresh and juicy. The squid ink pasta is abit 有色无声, the color is black but doesn't have any squid taste.
